Pinch has 3 different pre-approval types that we will explain in this article and some of the ways these interact with different areas of the system. Unlimited Limited (Threshold Set) Limited (Subscription Only)
Unlimited Pre-Approval:
Unlimited Pre-approval in Pinch allows the system to debit all invoices and payments for that client automatically. This includes automatically enrolling the client in subscriptions and payment plans without requiring you to send them an invitation.
Limited Pre-Approval: Threshold Set
This type of pre-approval begins as an unlimited pre-approval and then has an Auto-debit Threshold applied to it, which limits the value of an invoice that can be auto-debited. This threshold can be set on an account-wide or per-client basis and will stop auto-debit from occurring if the invoice/payment amount is below the nominated threshold.
*The Auto-debit threshold does not impact Subscription/Payment Plans that function independently of this setting.
Limited Pre-Approval: Subscription Only
This type of pre-approval is gathered from the Subscription invitation and only gives the system the authority to debit the payments associated with the authorized payment plan automatically.
- If a Fatal Dishonor is detected on a payment, all payment plans associated with the client will also be canceled.
- If you want your client to only be on a subscription and not a normal pre-approval, don't send them the customer portal invite until after they have signed the Subscription. The Customer Portal now allows clients to set themselves up for Unlimited pre-approval, and if this is done prior to accepting the subscription, this doesn't automatically connect the two and will cause confusion.
- Canceling an Unlimited Pre-approval or Threshold Limited Pre-approval associated with any payment plans will cancel all payment plans. If your client sets up a Subscription-Only limited pre-approval and afterward sets up an Unlimited Pre-approval via the portal, canceling this Unlimited Pre-approval will not cancel the Subscriptions.
