Plus addressing lets users add “+tags” to their email address for easier filtering, testing, and account management emails still go to the same inbox. It’s supported by many major email providers.
What is Plus Addressing?
Plus addressing (also called subaddressing) is a feature that lets you add a “+tag” to your email address before the @
symbol.
Example:
If your email is jane.doe@example.com
, you can also use:
-
jane.doe+admin@example.com
-
jane.doe+store2@example.com
All messages still arrive in your regular inbox (jane.doe@example.com
), but each alias is treated as a unique address.
Why Use This?
This is helpful if you:
-
✅ Want to access multiple Pinch accounts using the same inbox
-
✅ Need to separate roles or locations (e.g.
you+accounts@
andyou+support@
)
Real-Life Examples
Scenario | Alias Example |
---|---|
Two businesses | alex+cleaningbiz@example.com alex+bookkeeping@example.com |
Role-based inboxes | info+billing@example.com info+support@example.com |
⚠️ A Few Things to Know
-
This isn’t a Pinch feature — it’s supported by many email providers (e.g. Gmail, Fastmail, Outlook).
-
Some websites don’t accept
+
in email addresses (due to strict validation). -
You can create filters in your email inbox based on the alias (e.g. “move
+test
emails to a folder”).
